Selena Gomez reveals her unborn sister's name was Scarlett as she thanks fans for prayers over mother's miscarriage

She has been out of the public eye for the past week as she rushed home after her mother suffered a miscarriage.

But Selena Gomez has thanked her legion of fans for their support over Christmas and revealed her mother had been expecting a girl, who the family had named Scarlett.

She wrote on Facebook and Twitter: 'Belated Merry Christmas everybody.. I can't thank you enough for all of your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate every one of you.. I love you all so much and we hope you and your family had a beautiful Christmas!'

Her fans quickly made 'Scarlett Teefey' a trending topic on Twitter.

The baby was to be the first child of the Selena's stepfather, Brian Teefey, and her mother Mandy, 35, who married when the popstar was five years old.

The 19-year-old announced her mother was expecting late last month.

She pulled out of two radio station holiday shows to be with her family.

Gomez had been due to perform on December 17 at the B96 Jingle Bash 2011 at the Allstate Arena outside of Chicago, Illinois.

She was also due to perform on 18th at 106.1 KISS FM's Jingle Bell Bash at the WaMu Theater in Seattle, Washington.

But the entire Seattle concert ended up being postponed after OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder was also forced to pull out after doctors ordered him to rest his vocals.

The former Wizards Of Waverly Place is still expected to perform in Times Square during MTV's live New Year's Eve special, hosted by Demi Lovato and Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey.

Selena learned of the family emergency on December 16 while in the audience at Power 106's Cali Christmas 2011 concert in Los Angeles.

She left immediately and headed home.
