The actress — who was last week told she had to clean a mortuary for 16 hours a week — will reportedly earn almost $1million for stripping off for Hugh Hefner's adult publication.
Website TMZ.com reports that the 25-year-old star, pictured topless here in 2010 movie Machete, originally turned down a $750,000 (£468,000) offer, demanding the figure should be closer to $1million (£624,000).
It is believed the shoot started over the weekend, with Lindsay having to fit it around her court-ordered duties.
Last week, Li-Lo was told to work at the LA County Morgue for a fortnight after failing to put in 360 hours at a local women's centre.
Judge Stephanie Sautner told the star she would have to show up and "do what they tell you to do" if she was to avoid an 18-month jail sentence for repeatedly breaking probation terms after a 2007 drink-driving conviction and necklace theft earlier this year.
She had initially been ordered to work at LA's Downtown Women's Centre, but because she was arriving late or not turning up at all she was forced to return to court.
The Playboy shoot is not the first time the controversial star has posed naked.
In 2008, the Mean Girls actress stripped off to recreate nude shots of Marilyn Monroe, taken by photographer Bert Stern just six weeks before she died of a drugs overdose.
At the time Lindsay admitted she was entirely "comfortable" with nudity.
She said: "I didn't have to put much thought into it. Working with Bert Stern on a Marilyn Monroe shoot was really an honour. When is that ever going to come up again?
"I wanted to portray the look and get it point-on as much as I could, to bring it back to life.
"I was comfortable with it, the nudity and everything."
Lindsay also did topless scenes and threesomes in 2010 film Machete.
More saucy roles include playing a pole dancer in 2007 flick I Know Who Killed Me.
